Description

A camouflaged machine gun post of the 24th Machine Gun Company, in position at the eastern edge of the wood. In the background, left to right: 496 Private (Pte) A. W. Hukins (head down); unidentified soldier from 52nd Battalion. The Australian machine-gunners in the foreground, 215 Pte E. Louden (sitting up), and 565 Lance Corporal O. S. Johnson, are looking across the valley towards Villers-Bretonneux. Standing in a dugout is 590A Pte W. F. Purves.
