Description
A line of machine gun posts near Harbonnieres which, in the advance of 9 August 1918, caused severe casualties amongst the 15th Australian Infantry Brigade, and held them up for about an hour, until a tank appeared and put the enemy gunners out of action. Brigadier General H. E. (Pompey) Elliott, directing the Brigade in its attack, was slightly wounded by a bullet from one of a number of snipers who lay hidden by the hedge seen in the background of the picture.
