Description
The Somme Valley and the slopes captured by the Australian troops during the opening of the great offensive on 8 August 1918. The attacking Australian Brigades in the first assault were the 11th, 9th, 5th, and 7th and through them the 4th, 12th, 8th, and 15th Brigades passed for the final phase. The advance for the day penetrated about 10,000 yards. Note several buildings near the water (background right). This is the fourth image in a four part panorama. See E02903P for the combined image.
