Description

Ammunition being unloaded from limbers of the 6th Army Brigade of Australian Field Artillery for the guns newly in position on the right of the Fouilloy-Warfusee Road, near Villers-Bretonneux, and to the right rear of Vaire Wood, the night before the attack on 8 August 1918. Every effort was made to obtain surprise for the operation; on the night of 7/8 August itself, a large proportion of artillery was emplaced within 2000 yards of the front line, enabling the advance to be covered by an effective barrage to a depth of 4000 yards into enemy country. Identified: Driver (Dvr) V. Harris, 6th Brigade Ammunition Column (BAC) (4); Gunner Stevens, 6th BAC (5); Bombardier T. Neill, 2nd DAC (10); Dvr Hughes, 6th BAC (14). See E02907K for position of those named in this caption.
