A German Casualty Clearing Station and cemetery. When the station was seized by the Australians, on 9 August 1918, patients were found in its wards. The surrounding area was finally captured after desperate fighting by troops of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Divisions during a general attack on the morning of 11 August. Lihons itself was taken by an assault of the 2nd and 3rd Brigades, and held against two heavily pressed counter attacks.
