Description

The village of Cappy, three days after its capture by the 9th Battalion in a general attack by the 3rd and 1st Divisions astride the Somme. The troops went forward over a mile, the enemy strongly entrenched in copses, old trenches, and sunken roads being forced back with severe losses.
