Description
View of a well that was captured by the 8th Australian Infantry Brigade on 29 September 1918 during the attack which broke the Hindenburg Line at Bellicourt. The village was within the first objective which was to be taken by the American troops, but owing to the situation it became necessary for the 8th Australian Infantry Brigade to operate against it. Five tanks were put out of action in the approach. Lieutenant J. C. Yeomans (subsequently awarded the DSO) in charge of patrols entered the village in a tank and cleared it of the enemy after hard fighting.
