The country from Vendhuille (left), to Gillemont Farm and Duncan Post (right). This was the scene of the operations of 29 September 1918, during the great attack upon the Hindenburg Main Line by the American and Australian troops. Macquincourt Farm and the villages of Le Catelet, Gouy, and Bony are also visible in the image. It was from Duncan Post and its vicinity that the 27th American Division launched their attack in the direction of Le Catelet and Bony. Chiefly on account of tank casualties, fog, and insufficient mopping up, it was only a partial success. Later in the day the 3rd Division cleared the area of snipers, unearthed concealed machine guns and rooted out the German dugouts. This is the fifth image in a five part panorama. See E03567P for the combined image.
