Description
A captured German trench at Gillemont Farm. At this particular point in the attack of 29 September by American and Australian troops, a German machine gun crew had been killed and the advancing troops had dug shelters for themselves on the reverse side of the trench. The direction of the attack was from right to left of the photograph. Quennemont Farm is at the end of the trench on the skyline. Gillemont Farm was subjected to much British artillery fire before the retirement on 21 March 1918. It is interesting to compare this trench with that shown in E03571. Note the German dead in the trench, right foreground, and above the trench left foreground.
