Description

One corner of the Detail Store of the Australian Ordnance Corps Depot. The word 'detail' is applied to those stores which came up from the Base in parcels, sacks or boxes all ready labelled and addressed to the Units requiring the stores, and consist of tools, technical instruments, electric torches, articles for repair of harness, cooking apparatus, waterproof covers, parts of vehicles, wheels and a thousand other items. The interior walls of this huge building were pitted and scared by shell fragments and cracked by explosion shocks. The compartments throughout resembled great, arched caverns of brick as seen in this photograph, not only on the ground floor, but in the upper storeys. Note the old German saw above Private Jim Barry, in charge of the Detail Store.
