Description

A working party engaged on parallel bridges built across the Cologne River, at Peronne, by Australian Engineers. The structure on the left was a Tank Bridge, built of four salvaged rolled steel joists, each twenty inches by seven inches. Its entire span was forty feet. The bridge on the right, built of material salvaged from a destroyed A Class Bridge, had a span of thirty feet, and was constructed to take an axle load of fourteen tons, making it available for all traffic, except tanks. Note the sign on the right which reads, `Dead Slow ?tons load, Bridge No. 4 a'.
