Description
The main street of Templeux, a village in the Hindenburg Front Line System. On 11 September 1918, the 4th Battalion, attacking under a barrage, took Hill 140, an eminence which looks down on Templeux, and from this village received a terrific blast of machine gun fire, which together with the fire of batteries of 7.7mm guns from Hargicourt, on the other side of Hill 140, caused severe casualties and forced the Battalion to retire. The village was easily taken in the general attack of 18 September.
