Description
Near Fromelles, France. 11 November 1918. View of the concrete German shelters situated in the old German front line, north of Rue Delaporte, near Fromelles. The area was the scene of the first battle of the 5th Division in France on 19 July 1916. The attack failed and the casualties sustained by the 5th Division were very heavy. Originally these concrete fortresses were covered by sandbags and an earthwork parapet.
