The guard paraded outside the gateway of a chateau that, for several months, served as the headquarters of the 1st Anzac Corps. As noted by the sign near the gate, the chateau included the offices of General Staff Officer, Branch of the Adjutant General and Quartermaster General, Chief Engineer, Deputy Director of Medical Services, and Assistant Director of Ordnance Service.
