Description
France. 31 January 1918. Hill 70, near Loos, showing the camouflage covering the dumps of chalk which had been brought to the surface in excavating the Hythe Tunnel Subway System. The concealment of this chalk proved a big proglem, as about 12,000 tons had to be disposed of within a short distance of the enemy's lines. The 3rd Australian Tunnelling Company was employed on this work. Identified are, Captain A. C. Morric (left), and Lieutenant D. Wentworth (right).
