Description
A group of unidentified members of the 1st Division engaged in clearing away debris from their billets in ruined cavalry barracks. Colour patches on several soldiers in the foreground indicate they are from the 16th Battalion. A soldier wearing a helmet and with a leather pouch around his neck (centre foreground) has an Anzac 'A' patch, denoting Gallipoli service. Note sandbags stacked in some of the window recesses (left) and a ladder, probably used to get into the barracks.
