Unidentified Australian engineers climbing out of a trench to follow a party of infantry ...
Description
Unidentified Australian engineers climbing out of a trench to follow a party of infantry (background right), at a practice firing of a Bangalore Torpedo. This torpedo was devised by Australian engineers and consisted of a long iron tube filled with aminol. Placed under the enemy wire their explosion created a gap in the entanglements through which attacking troops could pass. Note four sheds in the background (far left). See E04731 for the torpedo.
