Description
A group of unidentified Australian soldiers (left) digging near Hill 104. The contour of the hill and the Bois de l'Abbe (Abbey Wood) are visible in the background. Hill 104 was the dominating feature of the countryside around Villers Bretonneux and it was the crest of this hill that German troops captured from British troops in the early morning of 24 April 1918. However, that same night, during the counter attack in which the Australians recaptured Villers-Bretonneux, the 13th and 15th Australian Brigades reclaimed the hill.
