Description
View of the village after its evacuation by the British and its partial destruction by enemy shellfire. For several months, in late 1917 - early 1918, Australian Corps Headquarters was located in Fletre. The shell damaged chateau, visible in the centre, served as General Birdwood's quarters and the Nissen huts, visible in front of the buildings, were used as the living quarters for the General Staff. Note in the background a shell damaged church (left).
