Description
Three Australian officers and three soldiers, all unidentified, gathering vegetables from gardens. The extensive market gardens in this vicinity, deserted by their owners, were taken over by our troops, and kept in order during April, May, June, and July and the vegetables were a welcome addition to ordinary Army fare. This locality was daily under the shrapnel fire of long-range guns. Note one officer (background left) is standing in a boat, grounded on the bank of a canal, that was used to transport the produce.
