Description

A back and side view of a Whippet tank. This tank is marked on its side with 'A 367'. The Whippet tank could reach a speed of 13 km/h, cross 2 m wide trenches, wade through 1 m of water and climb slopes up to 40 degrees, however its poor ventilation system created uncomfortably humid conditions for the tank's crew. The tank was first used in early 1918 and because of its mobility and speed was used extensively in the latter stages of the war. Note the village of Villers-Bretonneux in the background.
