Description
The French and Australian (left) Guards of Honour at the final handing over ceremony to Amiens of the 15 inch German gun, captured by the Australians near Proyart in August 1918, which had caused extensive damage to the town. The gun was handed over by General Sir William Birdwood (not visible) on behalf of the Australian Government. He also presented the Australian Flag in the foreground (left) to the Amiens Cathedral. The Australian Guard of Honour is composed of unidentified members of the Australian Graves Detachment. Note the large crowd of onlookers.
