Description
A replica of a tablet to be placed on a monument erected in the Villers-Bretonneux Cemetery by French citizens in memory of the Australians who died in the defence of the village in the spring of 1918. The tablet was made of Belgian granite and was handed over to the Australian authorities on 19 July 1919 with the intention that it would be exhibited in all Australian states before being permanently placed on the monument in the cemetery. The replica features a rising sun at the top and an inscription that reads 'Aux heros Australiens morts pour la defense de Villers-Bretonneux 24-25 Avril 1918 - les habitants reconnaissants'.
