Description
View of the countryside from Treux Wood to Albert, taken from near Meaulte. This area was the scene of much fighting throughout the First World War. During the first Battle of the Somme, in 1916, Albert served as the main base and railhead behind the British frontline. This panorama is one of a series taken by the Australian War Records Section. The original is a 10 inch x 46 inch long 'Cirkut' camera nitrate negative.
