This engagement honour was awarded for participation in the advance and capture of Madang, on the northern tip of Astrolabe Bay, New Guinea. The occupation of Madang effectively brought an end to the Huon Peninsula and Ramu Valley campaigns. The battle honour is unique to the 30th Infantry Battalion.
