Description
The field kitchens of a battalion in the support line of trenches. A seated group of soldiers is relaxing on the right; others are chatting and one is reading a newspaper. The chimneys of four cookers can be seen, as well as cooking vessels, wooden crates of supplies and transport wagons. The fuel used was coal or charcoal so as to reduce smoke. Meals were carried to the front lines from these kitchens three times a day.
