Transport drivers of the 2nd Australian Pioneer Battalion watch a warrant officer buy chocolate ...
Description
Transport drivers of the 2nd Australian Pioneer Battalion watch a warrant officer buy chocolate from a Frenchwoman during a halt on the road while moving into a new area. Fourth from the left in the group of soldiers (smiling and partially obscured) is possibly 1734 Sapper George Albert Kent. The Pioneers engaged in a wide range of support activities including digging trenches and building observation posts and tramways. Others worked in various trades, for example carpentry, painting, signwriting and blacksmithing, or as armourers.
