Description
Panoramic view of the Belgian coast from Ostende (Oostende) to Nieuport (Nieuwpoort). A planned advance in the coastal sector during the British offensive in Flanders was foiled when the Germans attacked on 10 July 1917. Some members of the 2nd Australian Tunnelling Company, who had been successfully tunnelling through the sand dunes towards the German trenches, were captured in the tunnels; a few escaped across the Yser River to Nieuport. This is a digitally combined composite panorama made up of five separate images. It is only available as a digital print. The five images are also available separately at EZ0174A, EZ0174B, EZ0174C, EZ0174D and EZ0174E.
