Major General Stevens 1st parade and presents certificate
Description
Major General J E S Stevens sees part of his new command. There were three battalions on parade including a section of field engineers, battery of artillery and field ambulance. The General Officer Commanding presented Commander in Chief's certificate of commendation to WP6082 Bombardier Richard William Rankin, anti aircraft gunner. Rankin was stated to be the first Australian to be recognised for combat bravery in Australia. Rankin was 23 years of age, single, born in Northern Rivers, NSW.
