Salbani
Description
Salbani India; native laundry. Buildings under construction by coolie women. Consolidated B-24 Liberator VI (B-24H and early B-24J model) heavy bombers of 356 Squadron RAF as seen by the distinctive crossed tail markings. Arming Liberators with .50 calibre machine gun belts and bombs. B-24 taxing and taking off. Aerial shots including from 3:03 to 3:09 of a bombed and repaired Winyaw River Bridge and Japanese rolling stock from 3:18 to 3:27.
356 Squadron RAF had many Australian members and the unit was involved with aerial bombing operations against the Burma-Thai 'death' railway in early 1945. In July 1945 the unit was moved to the Cocos Islands to take part in the planned liberation of Malaya and Singapore.
