Description

RAF Bomber Command Operational Film No 216. On the night of 26-27 August 1944 a large force of heavy bombers of No 5 Group Bomber Command made their longest flight ever when they flew to attack the port of Konigsberg, East Prussia. This port is of vital importance to the Germans now that the Russians are threatening East Prussia. The bombers bombed from below their normal height for German targets and the defences were quickly saturated. Some of the new 'flame throwing' incendiaries were used on this attack and large fires were started and a great pall of smoke soon hung over the city as the attack increased in fury. RAAF Sqns 463 and 467 took part in this raid. [transcribed from dope sheet]
