New furniture for Vietnamese School DPR/TV/1089
One of the many Civil Aid projects carried out by the Australian Army in Phuoc Tuy Province South Vietnam has been to help in the re-building and re-equipping of the school at An Ngai destroyed during fighting in the 1968 Tet offensive. Australia undertook the rebuilding and re-furnishing of three of the nine classrooms at the school. The final load of furniture has been collected from a contractor in Baria and delivered to the school. The children and teachers gathered round to watch as Vietnamese workers and Australian soldiers carried the furniture into the classrooms. The work was supervised by Captain Bernie Mulcahy of Brisbane, Qld, who is Education Adviser to the Province authorities in Phuoc Tuy. Before the Australians left the children sang a song expressing their gratitude for the rebuilding of their shattered school.
