Description

This film was shot as forward HQ section of signals [film] segment. Briefly, the commentary should run on the lines that when the Task Force HQ moves forward from Nui Dat the Sigs Centre at Nui Dat is reproduced in the field; The ACV specially fitted out carries the actual Sig Centre. This is the first time it has been used and means that the Sigs Centre is ready to transmit messages between the forward HQ and the rear HQ at Nui Dat, also to Vung Tau, and via Saigon to Australia, within 20 minutes of arriving on the site. The messages are handled in the same way. In the segment in the control cabin the Sigs Officer can control frequencies and quality of reception etc. Although these areas are normally restricted care has been taken to include no equipment or maps of a restricted nature in the film. It can therefore be regarded as clear. The CP segment just shows the duty signaller at his normal tasks. It should be noted here that in a full forward HQ there would be two signallers, more telephones etc. and a greater air of activity. However this small version of a forward CP was the only one available in the time laid down. Outside segments shot on Plus-X interiors on Tri-X. (Identified personnel: Sigs Officer Lt Peter Diddams of St Ives, NSW).
