Description

Lieutenant-Colonel B H Gutteridge was a pathologist serving with the Citizens Military Force (CMF) and was sent to South Vietnam for a three month tour with 1 Australian Field Hospital, Vung Tau. Scenes include: Singapore, boarding Qantas Boeing 707 passenger aircraft for flight to Vietnam. Aerial views of the Mekong River. Landing and disembarking at Ton Son Nuit Airport. Road journey to Saigon and views of the city from the top floor of the Embassy Hotel. Visit to the US 24th Evacuation Hospital at Bien Hoa Air Base. General Watson, Lieutenant-Colonel Connolly and Captain Anderson. Arrival of Medevac Iroquois helicopter with Viet Cong casualties brought in for treatment at the 24th Evacuation Hospital. Boarding RAAF Caribou at Ton Son Nuit for flight to Vung Tau via Nui Dat. Kangaroo Pad at Nui Dat. Helicopter flight from Nui Dat to Fire Support Base (FSB) Thrust. Various scenes at the FSB including Centurion tank and Armoured Recovery Vehicle, weapons pits, observation tower, and 105 mm Howitzer. Return flight to Nui Dat and scenes at Kangaroo Pad including take off by 'Dust Off' Huey Iroqouis helicopter. US Iroquois landing at Vampire Pad at 1 Australian Field Hospital and unloading casualities. Australian casualities carried by stretcher to RAAF buses for evacuation to Australia.
