Description

At HQ 1 Australian Corps a chapel was constructed in which services were held by each of the three denominations. The Chapel was designed by QX33616 Captain Ian Marsden McBain, SO Camouflage, RAE, HQ 1 Australian Corps, who also made the four "stained glass" windows. These were actually made from canvas which was painted with water-proof colours mixed with castor oil. These "windows" could be rolled up like a bed roll and thus be transported with ease. The windows were first erected when HQ 1 Australian Corps was at Barrine on the Atherton Tablelands, Qld. Also identified: 327 (VX15120) Brigadier (Brig) Henry Wells CBE DSO, Brigadier, General Staff; NX34728 (N8) Brig John Raymond Broadbent CBE, Deputy Assistant Quartermaster-General; QX6078 Chaplain 2nd Class William Paul Hohenhouse MBE, Deputy Assistant Chaplain-General Church of England.
