Description

The official opening and unveiling of the Cenotaph at Tarakan War Cemetery. All services took part. Grave of SX7964 Lieutenant Thomas Currie Derrick VC DCM, 2/48 Australian Infantry Battalion killed 24 May 1945, national flags fly at half mast in rear. 3107251 (NX376) Brigadier David Adie Whitehead CBE DSO MC ED, Commander 26 Australian Infantry Brigade and Sergeant Perriam (longest service soldier in 26 Brigade) unveiling the Cenotaph. Also identified is Padre NX203207 Captain Walter Richard Cowper reading out the names of the fallen from the dais.
