General view of troops sightseeing and being entertained by Chinese families in Kuching. Examination and inspection of surrendered Japanese on wharf at Kuching. Discovery of Japanese arms dump in St Joseph's School, Kuching, on 25 September 1945. 437351 (SX3295) Brigadier Thomas Charles Eastick DSO ED, Commander Kuching Force, flew in to Pontiniak by RAAF Catalina to confer with Japanese garrison regarding disposal of arms and equipment. Street scenes show welcome given by native population. NX39373 Sergeant Desmond McCarthy escorted by Chinese girls meets members of the Chua family of Chinese residents. Major D E MacInnes, 2/4 Australian Pioneer Battalion, examines Japanese pistol and swords. Captain G. C. Hogan examines a sword. NX36286 Private (Pte) Douglas Edward Malcolm, NX122504 Pte Lonard Hurtle Casey and NX10496 Pte Oscar Edbury Monk examine shotguns, some of them fitted to take a bayonet.
