Tree planting ceremony & Anzac Day march & parade
On behalf of the BCOF in Japan, the Commander-in-Chief 34 (VX20321, VX80578) Lieutenant General Horace Clement Hugh Robertson CBE DSO, officially planted in the soil of Kure, the first of a batch of 500 eucalyptus gum trees, brought from Australia. Present at the ceremony were BCOF officials, Military Government officials and members of the city council. A parade of BCOF troops including Royal Navy, RAN, RAAF, was held at Anzac Park, Kure, in commemoration of Anzac Day. The parade was followed by the Commander-in-chief Lieutenant General H C H Robertson CBE DSO the Commander-in-chief a short march through the streets of Kure. The Commander-in-Chief Lieutenant General H C H Robertson CBE DSO took the salute. (Note: Dope sheet states 500 gums. BECON reports 90 with an ultimate 200 trees being planted around Kure).
