Description

Independence Day was celebrated on 5 July 1948 as the 4 July was a Sunday and General MacArthur declared the Monday a holiday. At the Imperial Plaza a parade was held, General MacArthur took the salute. General Eichelberger and 34 (VX20321, VX80578) Lieutenant-General Horace Clement Hugh Robertson CBE DSO were on the saluting dais with MacArthur. American and British forces were reviewed to commemorate Independence Day. Many dignitaries were present on the official dais representing many countries.
