Opening titles read: "The Daily Graphic and Kemsley News papers present "In occupied Japan". The historic document in Kodachrome of the first six months of life in the fallen Empire of the Rising Sun. These colour films were taken in Japan and Korea by Daily Graphic, Sunday Times and Kemsley Newspapers War Correspondent William Courtenay MM, AR, Aes. William Courtenay was accredited to the United States and Australian Military, Naval and Air Forces in the Southwest Pacific Area and to the US Fleet in the Central Pacific Area from 1942 to 1946. As the war correspondent of the Daily Graphic, Sunday Times and Kemsley newspapers he took part in 18 Pacific island landings and in 20 air missions over the Japanese lines and flew over 1000 hours. He landed in Japan with the first Airborne elements on 30th August 1945 remained until February 1946. Everywhere he took his movie camera. These films of Japan of its peoples at the close of the war, of the atom bombed cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima were hailed as the only authentic documentary record in colour of the stirring events surrounding the fall of Japan and the first foreign invasion in her 2500 years of history."
