Description

Twenty nine Australian soldiers have become the first graduates of an experimental school set up to train fluent interpreters. At the same school South Vietnamese soldiers studied the English language. Commander of the 1st Task Force Brigadier O D Jackson and the Phuc Tuy Province Chief, Colonel Le Van Dat, met the students and spoke with the two top graduates, Vietnamese soldier Troung Ngoc Hoan and Private (Pte) Michael Dempsey of Liverpool NSW, Lieutenant Ken Jorgenson of Cooma, NSW, Chief Australian instructor during the course, presented certificates to the students at the graduation parade. After the parade Troung Ngoc Hoan addressed the parade in English and he was followed by Pte M Dempsey, who addressed the parade in Vietnamese. Cameraman Warrant Officer Class 2 Cunneen.
