On Friday 21 October 1966, Lyndon B Johnson, President of the United States of America, visited the forecourt of the Australian War Memorial. In a short ceremony he laid a wreath on the Stone of Remembrance. After the ceremony he spoke to the catafalque party and was then presented to the members of the board of trustees. The president then moved across the forecourt waving to the crowd, entered his car and departed from the Memorial area.
