Interviews with four RFC veterans Messers Allport, Killingsworth, Notley & Hammond for the 0-10 TV series Australians at war

Interviews with four veterans of the Royal Flying Corps. Veterans in order of appearance are Mr John Allport, Mr Tom Killingsworth, Mr Harold Notley and Mr Bunny Hammond, OBE. Mr Allport tells how he joined the Australian Artillery then the RFC and in the 1939-1945 war served in the Navy. He reads from a log book as he describes night bombing and being shot down on a photo reconnaissance mission. Mr Killingworth describes education requirements for the RFC and tells how he was holidaying in Canada with Cree Indians at the outbreak of the war. He was attached to Captain Morton in an Intelligence unit and flew with him on reconnaissance and intelligence missions. He describes intelligence kits and how they were delivered behind enemy lines. Mr Notely an Observer/gunner describes German fliers tactics and how he was shot down by anti-aircraft fire on Friday 13 September 1917 while flying a DH9. He also describes the DH9's armament. Mr Hammond was an engineer before the war and joined the AIF as an infantryman serving in the Middle East and France. He was wounded at Fromelles with the 5 Division and joined the RFC after being in hospital in England. He describes flying training in a Morris Farman, German fighter tactics and forced landing and capture. (Sound only) Description of imprisonment and an escape attempt by tunnel.
