Description

Captain CO HMAS Hobart, RAN from 15 December 1965 to 27 September 1967. Scene 23, Take 1: Describes background to deployment of HMAS Hobart in mid March 1967 at Subic Bay, on the 'gun line' south of demilitarized zone (DMZ). Operation 'Sea Dragon' north of DMZ. Calls for covering fire from American, Vietnamese and Korean observation troops on shore. Praise for ship's company. Describes close call during coastal defence when under fire 9 times but not hit. Scene 42, Take 1: Describes teamwork of ship's company. Welcomed home in Australia by family and friends but disappointed with attitude of general public towards armed forces in Vietnam. Scene 23, Take 2, roll 61: Other destroyers deployed to Vietnam by RAN between March 1967 and October 1971 were Hobart, Perth, Brisbane and Vendetta.
