Description
Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey. October 1915. A portion of the underground firing line dug by the 3rd Australian Infantry Brigade at Anzac. This style of trench was originally devised by Captain Clougston for Brigadier-General MacLagan who wanted overhead cover for his men, although timber was not available at the time. Ultimately this system was adopted along almost the whole front of the 1st Australian Division.
