Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey. September 1915. The farm (on the right) below Chunuk Bair, in the right background. This farm was ineffectively attacked by Baldwin's British Brigade on 9 August 1915. The Ghurkhas reached the summit of Chunuk Bair at a point about half way up the sloping skyline, but only for a few minutes. On 10 August, the Turks coming over the summit in great force were blown away in thousands on the slope of the sandy crest, and their bodies could be seen lying there for days. The farm remained in possession of the Turks.
