Description
Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey. September 1915. The farm (in the left centre) below Chunuk Bair, in the background. This farm was ineffectively attacked by Baldwin's British Brigade on 9 August 1915. The Ghurkhas reached the summit of Chunuk Bair at about the lowest point of depression in the centre of the skyline slope, but only for a few minutes. On 10 August the Turks, coming over the summit in great force, were blown away in thousands on the slope of the sandy crest, and their bodies could be seen lying there for days. The farm remained in possession of the Turks.
