Description
Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey. 6 October 1915. A view looking across the Salt Lake, showing the shells fired from the battleship, HMS Glory, bursting on the Pimple at Suvla. The Pimple must be distinguished from the 'Pimple' in the Anzac trench line. It marked the extreme limit of the British penetration from Suvla along Kiretch Tepe Sirt in August, when this position was reached but was retaken by the Turks. Photographed by Mr Bean (C. E. W.) from Lala Baba, where, with Mr Lawrence, Reuter's correspondent, he was hospitably entertained by the 2nd Mounted Division whilst under arrest.
