Description

Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey. 1915. In order to protect the North Beach, our best harbour, an old steamer, the Nile (Milo), was partially sunk and filled with sand on 26 October 1915. Telegraphic communication had made rapid development as indicated by the post and wires shown. The tents in the foreground are occupied by Maltese labourers.
