Description

Helles Beach showing the fort on the extreme left from which the machine guns were fired by the Turks during the landing. The three ships in the harbour, HMT River Clyde (left), the French Navy battleship Massens (centre) and the French passenger ship Saghalien (right) were run ashore to form a breakwater. One of a series of photographs taken on the Gallipoli Peninsula under the direction of Captain C E W Bean of the Australian Historical Mission, during the months of February and March, 1919.
